Eva Pearl
Synopsis and List of Characters:
Eva and Sam Pearl, 26 and 33 respectively, have been married forever,nine years. Sam rescued Eva from her abusive stepfather when she was a teenager. She dropped out of high school, later getting a GED and a license to cut hair.
When Eva goes back to community college and begins taking a poetry class, she discovers a gift for language. An unexpected acceptance of one of her early poems, and a surprising attraction change her and Sams lives irrevocably.

Joe Ling , 45. Born in Hong Kong, owner of the Luck and Happiness grocery store, where he works seven days a week, three hundred and sixty three days a year, married, with three children.
Cesar Gonzalez, 24, rap poet, Guatemalan stock-boy at the grocery store.
Vivian Houston, 41, teacher of Evas poetry class at the local community college.
Shelley Boudreau, 20, a fellow student in the poetry class; friend of Evas.
