Hot Water
(one-act)
Synopsis:
Jack Woolf, 58, is a defense lawyer who works to save accused murderers from the death penalty. His motto is “everyone deserves a second chance.†Unfortunately Jack’s laudable politics are not matched by his less-than-laudable sense of personal responsibility and integrity. His former lover, Olivia Hotchkiss, 38, has a few problems in that area herself. After she invites him to take a “friendly†hot tub in her backyard, their hidden agendas are revealed over the course of the long night as they argue, laugh, reminisce, make love, fight, make up, lie, confess, and come close to both murder and salvation.
- An earlier version of this play, called “Two Savages Up to Their Eyeballs in Hot Water†had a reading as part of the Cold Cuts series at the Algonquin Club in New York.
