Classes

I teach classes in poetry, essay writing, and journal writing, through The Writing Salon, California Poets in the
Schools, The Sun Magazine workshops, Interplay, and occasionally, privately.

If you are an adult and would like to take a class with me through The Writing
Salon, please visit their web site at
www.writingsalons.com to register.  Writing
Salon classes are either five weeks or nine weeks, and take place in either
San Francisco or Berkeley.  I have been teaching essay writing and journal
writing with them--the classes are fun and friendly and attract a lot of talented
writers.

If you are a parent of an elementary school child and would like to have me come as a guest or resident poet to
your child’s school, please contact me.  Parents and teachers are the best advocates for arts enrichment
programs in their children’s schools. Monies to pay for the
California Poets in the Schools program can be
raised through the PTA or through various government grants.

If you are interested in taking a weekend workshop with writers who publish in The Sun, please visit their web
site at
www.thesunmagazine.org .  There is a yearly workshop offered at Esalen in October; other workshops
occur less frequently at Omega and
Rowe Conference Centers.  If you are a devoted Sun reader (is there any
other kind?) and know of a conference center that would be a good place to hold a Sun workshop, please
contact Sy Safransky at
sy@thesunmagazine.org, or Anglela Winter at angela@thesunmagazine.org .

If you would like a more embodied, playful oral approach to poetry, consider taking my Interplay class, “Playing
with Words”.  We generally start out babbling to each other, and end up composing on-the-spot improvised
poetry while a dancer dances, and, if we’re lucky, someone provides musical accompaniment.  A very rich
experience!  For a full listing of Interplay classes in Oakland, log onto
www.interplay.org .

If you would like to organize a day-long writing group with me in your living room, and have ten friends that you
can sign up, I am happy to work privately.  Please
email me, and we’ll schedule something.
